Chronic heartburn is a problem that millions of people face each day. In fact, some people even begin dreading meals in fear of the chronic heartburn they may experience after they finish eating. Tobacco can also increase your symptoms so if you smoke it is suggested that you try to quit or least cut back as much as possible. Wearing clothes that are extremely tight around the abdomen can increase your symptoms because of the pressure it places on your stomach. If you have chronic heartburn and are overweight, then the extra weight is probably contributing to your symptoms. This is why it is suggested that you begin an exercise program and try to lose those extra pounds. This will take some of the pressure off your stomach that may be pressing the contents in your stomach back up your esophagus. If you have heartburn at night, then try elevating your head when you are sleeping as this can also help to relieve heartburn symptoms.
Everyone is different so it is important that you learn what triggers your heartburn and do your best to avoid these triggers. Having chronic heartburn for a long period of time can cause more serious conditions to develop. If you have chronic heartburn it is suggested that you see your doctor to find ways to help improve your condition before it gets completely out of control.
